Cleaning the Print Bed

A clean print bed is the number one secret to achieving a perfect first layer and preventing your prints from detaching mid-print.

Regular Cleaning

This procedure should be done regularly to remove dust, plastic residue, and most importantly, grease from fingerprints.

  • Primary Method (Recommended): Use Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) with a concentration of 90% or higher. Pour a small amount onto a paper towel and wipe down the entire surface. This is excellent for materials like PLA, PETG, ABS, and more.
  • Alternative: If you don't have IPA, you can use warm water with a few drops of dish soap on a paper towel.
  • When to Clean: It's most effective to clean the bed when it is cool. If you clean a hot bed, the alcohol may evaporate too quickly.

Tip

Try to never touch the printing surface with your bare hands.

Surface Rejuvenation (for Smooth PEI Sheets)

After hundreds of hours of use, a smooth PEI surface may begin to lose its adhesion.

  • Procedure: To restore its grip, with the bed cool and removed from the printer, wipe it down thoroughly with a paper towel soaked in pure acetone.

CRITICAL WARNING

  • Never use acetone on textured or powder-coated print sheets. Acetone will permanently damage these surfaces.
  • Remember that print surfaces are consumable parts, and their natural wear and tear are typically not covered by warranty.
