General Safety Rules

Your safety is the number one priority. You are building and operating a powerful machine that combines high temperatures, lethal voltages, and fast-moving parts. You are responsible for your own safety and for operating the machine in a safe manner.

This safety section covers the primary risks, but these "Golden Rules" should always be top of mind.

The Golden Rules of 3D Printer Safety

  1. Never Leave the Printer Running Unattended. The single most important rule. Being present is your best defense against unexpected failures.
  2. Respect Electricity. Always unplug the machine from the wall before performing any maintenance.
  3. Hot Parts Burn. The nozzle and bed stay dangerously hot long after a print is finished. Be mindful of where you put your hands.
  4. Moving Parts Pinch. Keep your hands, hair, and any loose items clear of the printer's gantry and belts during operation.
  5. Ensure Good Ventilation. Printing some materials releases fumes. Always operate your printer in a well-ventilated area.
  6. Keep a Clean Workspace. Do not allow flammable materials like paper, aerosols, or excess plastic to accumulate around your printer.
  7. Be Prepared. Have a smoke detector installed above the printer and an appropriate fire extinguisher nearby.
