Cleaning the Print Bed

A clean print bed is essential for good first layer adhesion, which is the foundation of a successful 3D print. This guide provides instructions on how to clean the print bed of your MY-Mini 3D Printer.

Materials Needed

  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) 90% or higher
  • Lint-free cloths or paper towels
  • Warm water
  • Dish soap (optional, for deep cleaning)
  • Plastic scraper (for removing stubborn prints)

When to Clean the Print Bed

  • Before every print: A quick wipe with IPA is recommended.
  • When you see fingerprints or dust: Oils from your skin can prevent filament from sticking.
  • When switching between different filament types: Some filaments can leave residues that affect the adhesion of others.
  • If you are experiencing adhesion issues: A thorough cleaning can often resolve these problems.

Cleaning Procedures

Routine Cleaning (Before Every Print)

  1. Ensure the bed is cool: For safety, always clean a cool print bed.
  2. Wipe with IPA: Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol (90%+).
  3. Clean the surface: Wipe the entire print surface to remove any dust or oils.
  4. Let it dry: Allow the IPA to evaporate completely before starting a print.

Deep Cleaning (For Adhesion Issues or Contamination)

If you are still having adhesion problems after a routine cleaning, a deep clean may be necessary.

  1. Remove the print surface (if removable): If your printer has a removable magnetic or glass bed, it can be easier to clean it at a sink.
  2. Wash with soap and water:
    • Use warm water and a small amount of dish soap.
    • With a soft cloth or sponge, gently wash the print surface. This will break down any stubborn grease or sugar residues from filaments like PLA.
    • Rinse the bed thoroughly with warm water to remove all soap residue.
  3. Dry completely: Dry the print surface with a clean, lint-free cloth. Make sure it is completely dry before reinstalling it.
  4. Final IPA wipe: Give the bed one last wipe with IPA to ensure it is free of any remaining contaminants.

Tips for a Clean Print Bed

  • Avoid touching the print surface: The oils from your fingers can significantly impact print adhesion.
  • Use a plastic scraper: If you need to remove a stubborn print, use a plastic scraper to avoid scratching the print surface.
  • Keep the printer environment clean: A dusty environment will lead to a dusty print bed.

By following these cleaning procedures, you will ensure the best possible first layer adhesion and improve the reliability of your MY-Mini 3D Printer.
