Snapping Tool Overview¶
Snapping is a powerful feature in LightBurn that allows you to easily align and create shapes by "sticking" your cursor or objects to specific points in your workspace.
What is Snapping?¶
Snapping ensures precision by automatically pulling your selection or tool point toward existing geometry. It allows you to snap to: * Nodes and Lines: Connect shapes perfectly at their edges. * Midpoints and Intersections: Find the exact middle of a line or where two paths cross. * Centers: Align objects to the dead center of other shapes. * Grids: Align your work to the background workspace grid.
How to Use It¶
- Visual Indicators: When snapping is active, you will see the cursor change its icon when you hover over a valid snap point (like an endpoint or center point).
- Creating Shapes: With a tool like the Line Tool active, hover over a shape until the cursor changes to ensure your new line starts exactly at an edge or center.
- Moving Objects: When dragging a shape, it will automatically "snap" into alignment when it gets close to the nodes or centers of other objects.
Settings and Controls¶
- Toggle On/Off: Snapping is enabled by default. You can find the settings for Snap to Object or Snap to Grid within the Settings Window (gear icon).
- Zooming for Precision:
- Zoom In: Makes it easier to snap to specific objects or small details.
- Zoom Out: Makes it easier to snap to larger grid points across the workspace.
